The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting Chamber activities and events. We are updating the website and event listing often with the most current information.
A final decision regarding the viability of holding the 2020 Mt. Mitchell Craft Fair will be made after June 26th, the day the Governor of North Carolina issues guidelines regarding Covid-19 public safety. The board of directors and the Craft Fair committee have been exploring alternatives. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate the path forward.

Plan to join us Friday June 19, 4-7 pm for our Friday wine tasting. This week I am featuring Parducci Wines from California. I have selected a Chardonnay and a Merlot. This winery was founded in 1932 and has been producing wines for over 85 years. As the longest running winery in Mendocino County, Parducci is a cornerstone of California wine making. Please call 682-3456 to reserve your spot.
I am continuing my Saturday Songsmith Series, Saturday June 20, 4-6 pm. This week I am featuring the original music of Laura Thurston. Event is free, but please call to reserve a spot, (682-3456). We continue to do our part to keep customers safe.
Father's Day is Sunday June 21st. Burnsville Wine and Main Street Shoes have a Father's Day Gift Basket just for you! For $40.00 you get 2 pints of beer from Homeplace, (right here in Burnsville) a mug from Burnsville Wine and a gift certificate from Main Street Shoes. You are invited to help celebrate our 10 years at Burnsville Wine and... We will be having an anniversary celebration Friday June 26. One of our favorite musicians, Nick Gonnering will be here to help us celebrate. Bring what goodies you want to eat and I'll have a variety of wines you can purchase by the glass for $5.00. Cancelled Events/Rescheduled
The 2020 Carolina Mountains Literary Festival is cancelled. What makes our Festival special is the intimacy and conversations. For the safety of attendees, authors and our community, the Board is cancelling the Festival in September. Go to the website - cmlitfest.org- to see who will be presenting in 2021. We are looking for pre-festival volunteers for 2021. Email cmlitfest@gmail.com for information.
Parkway Playhouse Cancels 2020 Season
With much sadness, Parkway Playhouse has made the decision to cancel our full 2020 Mainstage season, as well as Reading Is Alive, due to the pandemic. Since most of our events involve gathering large groups of people together, we have to follow public health guidance regarding opening the theater and gathering people in groups (even outside). We intend to shift the plays for our 2020 season to 2021 while continuing to monitor the situation with the pandemic in the coming months. Our generous sponsors and Playbill advertisers for 2020 will also shift to 2021 automatically. Between now and then, we will be recognizing those sponsors and advertisers on our website and on social media as well as radio programming on WKYK/WTOE.
Parkway Playhouse will continue its online youth classes and we are exploring summer programs that can be done online as well. We may even have a few surprises for you in the coming weeks. While the public is away from the theater, we will be doing some renovations and repairs to make the experience better once audiences return to the theater.
