THE ARTS PARKWAY PLAYHOUSE COMING SOON: Elf JR   Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa's permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Tickets are available on the Parkway Playhouse website and at the Parkway playhouse Box Office (828-682-4285), which is open from 1-5pm Thursday through Saturday and one hour before show time. WEBSITE CRAFTY THINGS TO DO MOUNTAIN PIECEMAKERS QUILT GUILD   The Mountain Piecemakers Quilt Guild will meet Tuesday, December 10th at 12:30 pm at the Burnsville Town Center for their Christmas covered dish lunch and games. For show and tell, bring an item you have made for Christmas decorating or giving. The group will collect personal care items to be given to local shelters for victims of domestic violence.   For more information call 828-691-0449. MISCELLANEOUS Farm City Breakfast December 5th at Burnsville Town Center The Annual Farm City Awards Breakfast will be held, Thursday, December 5th at 7am at the Burnsville Town Center. The breakfast celebrates those individuals, farmers, educators, youth and businesses that make Yancey County a wonderful place. This year the breakfast will feature local products from local farmers and businesses. The menu will feature local eggs, sausage, grits, potatoes and apples and biscuit and gravy. Last year the breakfast served 80 individuals and only produced ½ a bag of garbage, the rest was composted or shared. This reduction in waste was made possible by the teamwork of the Yancey County Cooperative Extension, Dig In! Community Garden, TRACTOR, the Toe Cane BeeKeepers, the Yancey Farmers Market, Blue Ridge RC & D, and the Master Gardeners.  The Breakfast is sponsored by Yancey County Cooperative Extension, Yancey Farm Bureau, Carolina Farm Credit, Blue Ridge Resource Conservation and Development, Burnsville Wine and…. Yancey County Farmers Market, United Community Bank, Walter Savage, Altec, Glen Raven, and Parts City, Auto Parts. This year donations will be accepted and split between the FFA and the Yancey County 4-H Program. The Awards are supported by the Lion’s Club, Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, Yancey County Retired Teachers’ Association, Burnsville Wine and…, Burnsville Men’s Club, Yancey County Farmers’ Market, Rotary Club, Rabek, Boothe & Associates, and the Chamber of Commerce.   The Yancey History Association will hold an Open Meeting on Thursday, December 5th at 5pm in the Lloyd Bailey Building, 2nd floor conference room at 3 Academy Street in Burnsville. At the meeting members will vote for the Executive Board position of Historian, receive the 2019 budget and proposed budget for 2020, and review the year's board meeting minutes.
