Upcoming Events in Burnsville, NC

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

OCTOBER 15, 2019

The Holiday season is approaching, and we are planning our December events. We need your help to make it happen. As in the past, the success of our events has largely been due to the contributions of our sponsors who have helped by their financial support to these events. Last year the money you contributed went to Santa Claus Night at the Burnsville Town Center and the Burnsville Christmas Parade. Your donations help with the rental of Burnsville Town Center, treat bags, cookies and hot chocolate, pictures with Santa, and fun activities for the children. It will also help keep the Burnsville Christmas Parade a no cost event and to have WKYK broadcast the parade. In past years we had up to 300 children at Santa Claus Night and we would like to continue with this tradition.

As a sponsor, your organization is sure to receive exposure from media campaigns and all promotions from the events. You will also gain exposure from the audience attending Santa Claus night and the Burnsville Christmas Parade. We have several sponsor levels.  Please contact Jaime here at the Chamber (682-7413) for more details on how you can help.

We are also seeking nominations for Grand Marshal of the Burnsville Christmas Parade. The Parade is held on December 7th at 1pm. Nomination forms are available at the Chamber Office or by emailing info@yanceychamber.com. For more information call 682-7413.

High Peaks Hosts Open House at Fire Tower Oct. 19

Join the NC High Peaks Trail Association for a special treat when the club hosts an Open House at the Green Knob Fire Tower off the Blue Ridge Parkway on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors should have grand views of the vibrant fall color from the observation deck and cabin, both of which are normally locked for safety and security reasons.

To reach the tower, park at the Green Knob Overlook at Mile 350.4 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. From there, walk about 100 yards north to the access trail, which is marked with a sign and begins with a set of steps visible from the Parkway. Please use extreme caution when walking this short distance along the Parkway as distracted, speeding drivers are all too common on the Parkway.

The hike to the tower is only about ¼ of a mile but the footing is uneven in places and the overall elevation gain is 300 feet, so the climb isn’t suitable for the elderly or those in poor physical condition.

Conditions can be surprisingly cool and windy on the tower, so dress accordingly. The tower will be staffed by High Peaks members with knowledge of the geography and the history of the tower and the Black Mountains.

Check our WEBSITE or our Facebook Link for more information.

We have a $15 Tube option where folks get a one-way shuttle to the Red Hill Swim Hole then a two-hour float (depending on water levels) back to our Outpost. Maybe you've heard about it on the news, read about it in a magazine or attended a dinner party where it was served...and maybe it made you a little nervous. We are talking about home-fermented foods. The practice of fermenting food and drinks has been around for thousands of years but has just recently resurfaced as trendy in the US. Join this hands-on workshop that will cover safe methods of fermenting foods: sauerkraut, vegetables, kimchi, yogurt, and kombucha. Participants will have the hands-on opportunity to make kimchi and kombucha. All supplies and resources will be provided. Two workshops will be held, Tuesday, Oct 22, at the Madison County Cooperative Extension Center from 1-4 pm or from 5-8 pm. Cost $15. To register call 828-649-2411.
