CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OCTOBER 8, 2019 | | The Holiday season is approaching, and we are planning our December events. We need your help to make it happen. As in the past, the success of our events has largely been due to the contributions of our sponsors who have helped by their financial support to these events. Last year the money you contributed went to Santa Claus Night at the Burnsville Town Center and the Burnsville Christmas Parade. Your donations help with the rental of Burnsville Town Center, treat bags, cookies and hot chocolate, pictures with Santa, and fun activities for the children. It will also help keep the Burnsville Christmas Parade a no cost event and to have WKYK broadcast the parade. In past years we had up to 300 children at Santa Claus Night and we would like to continue with this tradition. As a sponsor, your organization is sure to receive exposure from media campaigns and all promotions from the events. You will also gain exposure from the audience attending Santa Claus night and the Burnsville Christmas Parade. We have several sponsor levels. Please contact Jaime here at the Chamber (682-7413) for more details on how you can help. | | "The fact that an opinion has been widely held is no evidence whatever that it is not utterly absurd." ~ Bertrand Russell | | THIS DAY IN HISTORY - 876 - Battle at Andernach: Louis the Young beats Charles the Bald (Somehow I think this little dispute may have been personal and just caused by a lot of name calling and the two guys should have just slugged it out!!) | | And now for the news..... | | Thanks for your continued membership: Ray's Old Store "Upholstery" Bantam Chef Blue Ridge Fitness & Rehab Center | | AREA EVENTS / ATTRACTIONS DINING / ENTERTAINMENT | | LOCATED AT MILE 328.3 ON THE BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY Call us at 828-765-9531 Wednesday, 10/9 @ 1:45 Music Jam Thursday, 10/10 @ 1:45 Jack Vaughn Friday, 10/11 @ 1:45 Debbie Young Saturday, 10/12 @ 1:00 Jonah Riddle Saturday, 10/12 @ 3:00 Crossfire Sunday, 10/13 @ 1:00 Harlan County Grass Sunday, 10/13 @ 3:00 Typical Mountain Boys Hayrides and Dance Demos every Saturday & Sunday For more information visit WEBSITE | | High Peaks Leads Douglas Falls Stroll Oct. 12 Join the NC High Peaks Trail Association on Saturday, Oct. 12 for a stroll to picturesque Douglas Falls and a visit to an historic fully restored fire tower in Dillingham. The stroll of 1.5 miles is rated as easy, although the footing can be uneven and hiking poles may be advisable. There should be early fall color, and the falls is one of the area’s most scenic. Following the stroll, the group will proceed to nearby Dillingham, which will be celebrating Heritage Day at the Big Ivy Historical Park. The group will visit the restored fire tower, which has been outfitted with all the equipment that fire watchers used. Strollers should assemble at the Rose’s parking lot at 9:00 a.m. Transportation will be provided in a Yancey County van for a donation of $5, reservations required by the evening of Thursday, Oct. 10. Dogs are not allowed on the vans so if you want to bring your leashed pet you must provide your own transportation. Bring lunch, water, snacks, a jacket and perhaps rain gear.
