Wellness Community’s Positive Impact

Green Mountain Farm’s cabin rental clientele have been benefiting from the special restorative environment created there for years.

“Green Mountain Farm is the real hidden gem inside North Carolina’s gem country,” said Kathyrn C, a cabin rental guest.

“It's a bit off the beaten path, but spectacular views, tons of privacy, and a fridge stocked with fresh veggies from the owners' garden and eggs straight from their coop made our stay well worth the few hairpin turns required to get there. Each of the property's rentals is unique and beautifully decorated with antiques and local pottery. Our hosts were gracious and attentive to our needs, while giving us plenty of privacy. The very best thing about Green Mountain Farm, however, is the opportunity to soak in its nature. The place is magical!!”

Founded in 2007, Green Mountain Farm is located in Yancey County in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina

THE ARTS

PARKWAY PLAYHOUSE PRESENTS GODSPELL

Godspell, is a musical that will begin showing at Parkway Playhouse on

July 28 and run until August 11. Directed by Dwight Chiles, Parkway Playhouse’s production features Allen Law, Briar Boggs, Maximillian Koger, Hunter Taylor, Zacary Landolt, Martine Rose, Candice Dickinson, Christine Caldemeyer, Sam Lebrocq, and Heather Bronson. Performances are on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 3pm through August 11th.

A small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of

games, storytelling techniques and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus' life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus' messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life.

Following the performance on opening night, July 28th, a complementary Opening Night

Reception for the cast and audience will be held. And on Sundays, July 29th and August 5th, the cast will sit for post show discussions. Audience members can ask questions about everything from costumes to scenic design, acting and their individual roles in the production.

SHOWTIMES:

Saturday, July 28th at 7:30 pm

Sunday, July 29th at 3:00 pm

The Parkway Playhouse is located at 202 Green Mountain Drive in Burnsville. Tickets are available on the Parkway Playhouse website and at the Parkway playhouse Box Office (828-682-4285), which is open from 1-5pm Thursday through Saturday and one hour before show time. WEBSITE

CRAIG FRANZ EXHIBITS IN THE BURNSVILLE

TOE RIVER ARTS GALLERY

Frederick ‘Craig’ Franz turns the Burnsville Toe River Arts Gallery into a lush mountain landscape that blooms August 4 through September 8. As you move from painting to painting, you’ll almost smell the mountain air and feel the gentle breeze on your face. And you’ll understand how meandering the paths of Grandfather Mountain and trails of the Pisgah National Forest during all four of the seasons inspire Franz’s brush. “I enjoy finding a beautiful composition in the commonplace as well as the extraordinary landscapes that surround us in the High Country.”

Franz has painted for decades but only began exhibiting his work about ten years ago. Before then, he had a career as a dental technician creating porcelain and gold restorations. He studied drawing and painting in college, but didn’t choose to pursue art until into his 50's. “An admiration for impressionism, especially the continued development of 20th century American impressionists, helped guide my path.” Now painting—both plein air and in the studio—consumes his time in between hikes in the high country.

Franz’s exhibit will showcase his lush oil and subtle pastels that depict the bucolic landscapes of western North Carolina. "Capturing on canvas the mood and atmosphere from a landscape setting is a lifelong pursuit and challenge. The technical aspects of composition and color theory add to this endeavor. But when a painting is successful, there is a satisfaction that drives myself and other painters to have such excitement and passion for what we do." Please come and witness his successes.
