We will have the opportunity to observe migrating birds from the deck of the Green Knob Fire Tower on Saturday, April 14. The tower will be open from 8-Noon. The spring migration should be well under way by then and the weather should be getting springy as well. We will park at the Green Knob Overlook (mile 350.4 of the Blue Ridge Parkway.) The Green Knob Fire Tower access trail is marked and is located approximately 100 yards north of the Overlook parking area. We plan to have the tower open by 8:00, but you are welcome to come earlier and start birding. Even though it will be “spring,” it can be quite cold and windy and you should have warm layers and rain gear available just in case. We are considering getting a van if we can get a minimum of 6 passengers. The van will depart Town Square at 7:15 and depart Green Knob Overlook at 12:00. The early announcement to the High Peaks Birders only resulted in 2 requests for van seats, so, if you want to come by van, notify Russ Oates (rmoates54@gmail.com) ASAP so we can reserve it (Thank you, Cynthia!)
