| | Parkway Playhouse Cancels 2020 Season | With much sadness, Parkway Playhouse has made the decision to cancel our full 2020 Mainstage season, as well as Reading Is Alive, due to the pandemic. Since most of our events involve gathering large groups of people together, we have to follow public health guidance regarding opening the theater and gathering people in groups (even outside). We intend to shift the plays for our 2020 season to 2021 while continuing to monitor the situation with the pandemic in the coming months. Our generous sponsors and Playbill advertisers for 2020 will also shift to 2021 automatically. Between now and then, we will be recognizing those sponsors and advertisers on our website and on social media as well as radio programming on WKYK/WTOE. Parkway Playhouse will continue its online youth classes and we are exploring summer programs that can be done online as well. We may even have a few surprises for you in the coming weeks. While the public is away from the theater, we will be doing some renovations and repairs to make the experience better once audiences return to the theater. Please check our website regularly and follow us on social media for more information and updates. | | Following government recommendations, the Orchard will begin to implement Phase 1 with a reopening Saturday, June 13. Hours will be 10 AM to 5 PM on Saturday and Sunday only. A limited number of people will be allowed into the General Store at a time; social distancing restrictions will be in place; and there will be no live music until further notice. The store will be strictly monitored, entrance metered. Surfaces will be sanitized regularly; plexiglass screens installed. Staff will be screened and encouraged to wear non-surgical masks and gloves (recommended for all visitors). The tasting/sampling stations will be eliminated. Although hundreds of folks look forward to our annual picnics, maintaining a six-foot distance from each other is impossible and sharing of home-prepared foodstuffs unwise. With that in mind, a decision was made to cancel both the Memorial Day and Independence Day Annual Picnics. The trails are “open for business.” Visitors are asked to please stay on the main trails as much work is being done in the Orchard; do not walk behind the red barn or climb on any of the equipment. Pets are welcome (but please pick up after them). And if there are other walkers on the trails, please maintain social distancing. | | Visit our Website! EMERALD VILLAGE WILL OPEN FRIDAY MAY 29TH!! Black Light Tours on May 23th and June 13th are canceled! | | Dear fellow forest lovers, At Snakeroot, I am carefully easing into a limited slate of guided walks and hikes. After spending the spring in rich wildflower coves with members of my household, I am now happy to offer several options for private, socially distant, off-the-beaten-path outings. Please email me to arrange a custom hike. I strive to operate in a thoughtful and ethical manner in each element of Snakeroot’s operations -- always prioritizing the health of our mountain ecosystems and the safety of clients during our rich experiences. Over the coming weeks, I plan to proceed with caution, balancing public health needs with the needs of individuals and families to connect with our wonderful forests. We will also host May and June firefly walks. Fortunately, our business model can be modified to conform with the CDC’s and North Carolina’s current guidance for operating in a safe manner. Group sizes will be small (up to 8 individuals), and we will limit the groups to no more than 3 separate households. This makes the reservation system a tad more complicated. Firefly walks will be $75 for the first 1-2 people in the household, $35 for each additional adult, and $20 for children. So when you register online, know that your first ticket is good for up to two members of the same household. We will be outside the entire time (as usual), participants will be required to wear a mask or face covering, and everyone will be asked to do their best to maintain 6’ of space from folks who are not in their household unit (I will provide glow-tape to help make everyone visible to each other). If you are in a high risk category as designated by NCDHHS, please stay home. In all of our operations during this pandemic, we will continue to do our best to provide quality experiences while balancing the needs of public health. Stay healthy and safe, and I hope to see you out on the trails, sooner or later!
