For many years the Yancey County Farmers’ Market has faithfully set up its tents and tables, bringing the freshest locally grown produce and related items to the community.  All grown and made just for YOU right here at home.

    ·       NEWDALE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT CHILI COOKOFF:  March 25th from 12:00 to 2:00 pm.  Individuals and teams welcome. Entry fee is $10 per individual and $25 per team.  For further information call or text Mandie at 828-284-2635, Martha a 828-208-0188, or Valerie at 828-208-5399.
     
    ·       TOPS Club (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) meets every Tuesday at the United Community Bank’s community room. Doors open at 5:00 pm and the meeting starts at 5:30.  Call 675-9300 for more information.
     
    ·       The Burnsville Council of Knights of Columbus announce the resumption of bingo game sessions for this year.  Come join us on Monday (April 3rd) starting the first of nine games at 1:00 pm.  There will be four extra optional games.  Doors open at noon for registration, $20 for nine games.  Light sandwiches, de3ssert and refreshments will be served.  Bingo will be held in the Sacred Heart Social Hall located at 20 Summit Street in Burnsville on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month.  All proceeds are contributed to local charities in our Tri-County area.  For information call Bob Holstein at 828-682-7477.
     
    ·       MHHS Prom scheduled for May 20th:  This year’s Mountain Heritage High School Prom “An Evening of Enchantment” will be held at the Asheville event Centre on Saturday, May 20, 2017, from 7:00 pm until midnight.  Juniors and Seniors may purchase tickets from March 27 until May 12.  The price per ticket is $40 through Friday, April 28, after which time the price will increase to $45.  Students who wish to bring a guest who does not attend MHHS must submit the appropriate form no later than Friday, May 12.  For information contact Aimee Hall at abhall@yanceync.net for more information.
     
     
    SCHOLARS LUNCHEON.   This year we will be honoring our local Scholars from Mountain Heritage High School at the North Carolina Scholars Luncheon on May 16, 2017.  The luncheon will be held at the Burnsville Town Center.  We need your help again this year by sponsoring a student.  The requirements for becoming a North Carolina Scholar are a 3.5 un-weighted GPA, College Prep Curriculum plus 2 upper level 5pt electives, 1 CTE, and 1 arts course.  This is quite an achievement for these students.  The cost to sponsor a student for the lunch is $15.00.  Contact the Chamber Office for more information at 682-7413.  Thank you in advance for your contribution.

      The Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands is held four days each July and October at the US Cellular Center in Asheville, NC. Discover fine traditional and contemporary crafts by over 200 craftspeople who fill two levels of the center selling their works of clay, fiber, glass, leather, metal, mixed media, natural materials, paper, wood and jewelry.

        The 4th annual FREE LiveWell expo will be held on March 25,2017 at the WNC AG Center from 9:00am-5:00pm. Come out and meet some of your favorite News 13 anchors & reporters. Check out over 100 local vendors who can teach you how 2017 can be your best year yet. Or check our live entertainment all day on our main stage or live cooking demos from area chefs on the Carolina Kitchen stage. There will be plenty of FREE health screenings as well. The LiveWell Expo is presented by Asheville Savings Bank, Ingles Markets, and Mission Health.
